Services

I offer a range of architectural design and supervision services across all stages of a construction project, ranging from initial project feasibility through to the administration and management of construction works. I specialise in domestic architecture, including:

-
New build houses
-
Refurbishment/conversion of existing buildings
-
New extensions to existing buildings
Project stages

Most architectural projects can be divided into a number of key stages, from initial design ideas through the actual construction. Our services are based around the RIBA Plan of Work 2020 ©, outlined as:

0 Strategic definition
The best means of achieving the Client Requirements confirmed
3 Spatial coordination
Architectural and engineering information Spatially Coordinated
6 Handover
Building handed over, Aftercare initiated and Building Contract concluded
1 Preparation & briefing
Project Brief approved by the client and confirmed that it can be accommodated on the site
4 Technical design
All design information required to manufacture and construct the project completed
7 Use
Building used, operated and maintained efficiently
2 Concept design
Architectural Concept approved by the client and aligned to the Project Brief
5 Manufacturing & construction
Manufacturing, construction and Commissioning completed
Typically I would provide a full service on a project, from strategic brief through to handover of the building to the client. However, the scope of services to be provided can be tailored to specific project requirements. For instance, a client may wish to develop a scheme design to obtain planning consent only - in which case our services can be engaged for this task only.
Appointment

Following initial enquiry and discussion as to the clients' aims and ambitions for a project, professional appointment is confirmed in writing prior to any architectural work commencing. This documentation includes, amongst other things, clear descriptions as to the scope of services to be provided, agreed professional fee and processes for resolution of any disputes which may arise. A project programme will be developed early on, identifying key work stages and milestones.
Fees

Fees are typically agreed as either:

-
A percentage of the construction costs
-
An agreed lump sum
-
A fixed hourly rate on a time-charge basis

The arrangements for the fee, including payment terms and scheduling, will be agreed in writing before work commences on a project. Fees vary depending on project size, complexity and the scope of services to be provided.
